A Texas man died Tuesday after a vehicle struck his parked car just outside of north Tulsa.
About 12:05 p.m., a 2000 Honda CRV driven by Steven Freking, 59, of Gainesville was parked on the shoulder of the northbound lane of Whirlpool Drive just south of 76th Street North, about 1½ miles outside of Tulsa city limits, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.
Jameson Harvey, 31, of Tulsa, was southbound on Whirlpool Drive in a 2002 Acura TL when he swerved in an attempt to avoid a 2008 Dodge Caliber, driven by 26-year-old Tulsan Ryesha Mougell, that was making a U-turn from the southbound lane, the OHP reported.
Harvey swerved, lost control of his vehicle and departed the roadway to the left, hitting Freking’s vehicle head-on, according to the OHP.
Mougell was not injured, and Harvey declined treatment at the scene for head and leg injuries.
Freking was transported by the Owasso Fire Department to the St. John Medical Center, where he died, the OHP reported.
The condition of the drivers and the cause of the collision are under investigation.
