Lebanon, NH : Rhode Island mom was killed her 4-year-old son was seriously hurt in a fatal crash at South of Interstate-89 Exit On Thursday, May 26th, 2016
Thursday afternoon, New Hampshire State Police were back on the scene just south of Interstate-89 Exit 20 in Lebanon where a Rhode Island mom was killed in a fatal crash the night before. They say her car was hit head-on by a drunk driver
heading the wrong way in the southbound lane.
Ellynn Koelsch, 34, died at the scene. Her 4-year-old son, Anthony, was in a car seat in the back. He was seriously hurt and taken to the hospital.
In court in Lebanon, the accused driver, Daniel Cowdrey, 38, of Hartland, Vermont, learned he faces two felony charges: negligent homicide and DWI.
Cowdrey works as a landscaper in Lebanon. Court paperwork shows he allegedly told police after the crash that he had a few beers at Peking Tokyo with friends that night before heading back home to Hartland. Police say he showed signs of
impairment, and, according to court paperwork, told them, "I'm just a drunk buffoon."
Police told us Cowdrey almost caused another head-on crash, clipping a car near Exit 19 Wednesday night just before he headed up the interstate toward the Vermont border.
While they could not release a blood-alcohol content, state police described him as highly intoxicated.
Cowdrey did not enter a plea. The judge set bail at $25,000 with conditions that Cowdrey not use drugs or alcohol, or possess weapons.
Police told us the little boy is in stable condition at the hospital. He is expected to recover. And his dad is with him now.
