One person was killed and three people were injured, two seriously, in a two-vehicle crash Thursday on Interstate 295 near the U.S. 301 exit in Hanover County, state police said.
The crash occurred about 11:20 a.m. when a northbound Ford Escape either stopped or slowed for traffic and was struck from behind by a Jeep about one-tenth of a mile north of U.S. 301, state police said.
The driver of the Ford, whose name was being withheld until relatives could be notified, died at VCU Medical Center.
A 14-year-old girl who was a passenger in the Ford suffered life-threatening injuries, and another young passenger in the Ford, a 7-year-old girl, suffered serious injuries. The driver of the Jeep was taken to a hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening, police said.
