Olympia, WA : Four people including an infant and a 4-year-old were hurt in a five-vehicle crash on April, Monday 24th 2017

Four people, including an infant and a 4-year-old, were hurt in a five-vehicle crash on state Highway 14 near Camas Monday afternoon.

Police and fire personnel responded to the crash, on the Camas Slough bridge, around 3:20 p.m.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the four vehicles were all heading east. Gabrielle M. Harvey, 21, of Washougal, lost control, spun out and struck the guardrails on both sides of the bridge before coming to a stop facing west.

Sarah M. Joyce, 32, of Washougal, tried to pass Harvey on the right, but was hit by another vehicle, driven by Mackenzie D. Badertscher, 21, of Camas.

That sent Badertscher’s car into Harvey’s front bumper.

Then, a third vehicle, driven by Aaron J. Sundby, 31, of Washougal, hit Badertscher.

According to the State Patrol, a fifth vehicle, driven by Maleigha E. Krith, 18, of Washougal, then crashed into Sundby.

Badertscher was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center for her injuries. Her condition was not available.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Will Finn said a 4-year-old girl was critically injured in the four-vehicle crash, and taken to a hospital. He said the girl suffered head and brain injuries.

Finn said an infant girl was also hurt, but stable, and taken to a hospital. Their conditions were not available.

The State Patrol said both children were in Badertscher’s car. Sundby was hurt, but not hospitalized. None of the other drivers were injured.

The crash is still under investigation, the State Patrol said.

Officials blocked traffic in both directions for a time and redirected vehicles through Camas. The crash and the response to it continued to block traffic, but just in the eastbound lane, until about 6:45 p.m.
