ALDEN, NY : A star athlete for Akron High School was killed on Saturday, August 26, 2017

A star athlete for Akron High School was killed Saturday morning when he was ejected from a car that rolled over on Peters Corners Road.
Johnny Fiebelkorn, 17, who was about to start his senior year at Akron, was a passenger in a car driven by his brother, Matt, Erie County sheriff’s deputies said. The car rolled into a ditch, pinning Fiebelkorn, who was pronounced dead at the scene of the 1 a.m. crash. Deputies said Fiebelkorn was a rear passenger and was not wearing a seat belt. His brother and another passenger suffered minor injuries.
Johnny was a member and captain of Akron’s wrestling team and had been captain of the football team.
Akron High School had counselors available Monday and throughout the week if needed, according to the school’s Web site.
Akron’s wrestling coach, Danny Klonowski on Facebook said he is having a lunch for wrestlers, friends and family who want to “celebrate such a wonderful young man.”
“It is with a heavy heart that we have lost a member of our family last night,” a post on the Akron Tigers wrestling page said. “Johnny Fiebelkorn has passed away and we are still in disbelief and devastated at this sudden and tragic loss. We will keep everyone posted as to the family’s needs and wishes and will update everyone with service times and dates as they come. Please keep the Fiebelkorn family in your thoughts and prayers as they grieve their loss.”
Fiebelkorn was described as a “natural leader.” He was the MVP of the wrestling team during his junior year and qualified for states for the third time. He also enjoyed four-wheeling and deer hunting.
In addition to his brother, Matt, survivors include his parents, Russell and Lori Fiebelkorn.
Calling hours are from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, where services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday.
