Albany,NY : Family, friends identify those involved in deadly Kona crash on may, Wednesday 17th 2017

Family and friends have identified all four people involved in Wednesday's deadly crash in Kona.

Three people died in that crash. One woman is fighting for her life. Friends identified her as Alana Lavaka from Waimea. The mother of five was last listed in critical condition.

Lavaka's husband, Hailame, did not survive the crash. He was 37.

The Lavaka's were driving their Nissan Titan on Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway near the airport in Kona on Wednesday when a Toyota 4Runner crashed into their truck.

The two men in the 4Runner were identified by family through an association called Communidad Latina De Hawaii. Their names are Obdulio Eliseo Garcia Orellana and Hector Alfredo Vigil Barrientos.

Both men lived on the Big Island but were originally from Guatamala. The family of both men say they are expressing their heartfelt condolences and prayers for the Lavaka family.

Police believe speed was a factor in the crash and have opened a negligent homicide investigation. This stretch of highway has seen more than a dozen fatal car crashes in the past 10 years.

Friends say the Lavakas were members of the Latter-Day Saints community in Waimea. Two years ago, they helped care for a family who lost their children in a house fire. We are told that family is now caring for the Lavaka's children.

Police have not yet officially released the names of those in the Toyota 4Runner.
