Springfield,IL : Greenwood man killed in midget car crash on July, Tuesday 4th 2017

Greenwood resident and race car driver Paul Graybrook, 60, died Tuesday morning after injuries sustained during a USAC midget car event at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, Ill.

According to USAC, Graybrook flipped over the front straightaway wall during the second lap of Monday night’s USAC Speed2 IMRA/Midwest Thunder Midget.

He was taken to Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, where he died.

According to Springfield’s State Journal-Register, an autopsy revealed Graybrook died of multiple blunt force trauma injuries suffered in the crash.

"USAC extends its sincere condolences to Graybrook’s family and friends during this difficult time," the series posted on its website.

A celebration of life will be conducted in Graybrook’s honor on from 4-7 p.m. July 18 at Greenwood’s Barn at Bay Horse Inn. The memorial service is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the USAC Benevolent Foundation and the Wounded Warrior Project.
