Liberty, MS : One dies, One hurt in head-on crash in Amite County on Monday, July 21, 2014

A LIBERTY man died and a McComb man was injured in a head-on crash in Amite County.

Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Rusty Boyd tells The Enterprise-Journal the accident happened shortly before 6 p.m. Monday on Mississippi Highway 24 near East Newman Road.

Boyd says 68-year-old Henry Spoler, of McComb, was eastbound in his CAR when a westbound CAR driven by 48-year-old Russell Lovett, of Liberty, crossed lanes and collided head-on with Spoler's vehicle.

Amite County Coroner Cam Sharp says authorities are trying to determine why Lovett's vehicle veered out of the lane.

Lovett was taken to Southwest Mississippi Regional MEDICAL CENTER in McComb, where he died.

Spoler was taken by helicopter to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. Boyd described Spoler's injuries as moderate.
