Marshall, MO : Man injured in a four-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 70 in Callaway County on Sunday, May 15, 2016
A Marshall man was injured in a four-vehicle crash in Callaway County at 7:35 p.m. at the 144-mile marker on westbound Interstate 70 Sunday, May 15.
According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred as a westbound vehicle, driven by 61-year-old Joseph Palen, of Marshall, reportedly merged into and struck another westbound vehicle. Palen's vehicle slid into the median, struck, and then traveled under the median cables and into the eastbound lanes where an eastbound vehicle entered the median to avoid Palen's vehicle and struck the median cables. Palen's vehicle reportedly rotated counterclockwise in the eastbound lanes and struck a fourth vehicle, which caused it to travel off the right side of the roadway where it struck a concrete culvert.
Palen was transported by ambulance to a hospital in Columbia for treatment of minor injuries. The other drivers, all from out of the area, reportedly were not injured.
