EVANSVILLE, IN : Bystanders credited for saving the lives of those involved in fiery crash on Monday, November 21st, 2016
An update on the fiery crash in Vanderburgh County on Monday.The wreck happened around 5:45 a.m. at St. Joe Avenue and Boonville-New Harmony Road. 14 News has learned bystanders stopped to help pull those crash victims from the wreckage and they are credited with saving their lives.
Deputies say the crash involved a truck and a car, and the truck's engine caught fire after the impact. They say a woman who saw the crash happen, stopped and got out to pull the truck's driver out away from the flames.
"I run around the car and I can just hear screaming and it was scary," said Tonya Eddmenson. "I didn't know if she was on fire, because when we pulled up we could see flames licking out of the engine. We were just frantic to get away from the truck because the fire started to pick up. I hope anybody would do that, you know."
Fire crews were able to knock out the flames quickly, and officials say three people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
