DUNCAN, SC : Two people are dead and another person is hurt after a crash on Tuesday, 1st May 2018
Troopers said two people are dead and another person is hurt after a crash involving two tractor trailers and a pickup truck on I-85 South in Duncan early Wednesday morning.
According to troopers, the crash happened around 1:30 a.m. right beneath the SC 290 overpass.
Troopers said a 2016 Dodge pickup hit a 2018 international tractor trailer from behind.
Both parties got out of their vehicles when another tractor trailer, a 2016 Freightliner, struck the pickup truck again.
The pickup then struck its driver and a passenger.
The Freightliner also struck the driver of the other tractor trailer.
Troopers said the pickup truck's driver and passenger both died at the scene.
The injured tractor trailer driver was taken to the hospital with injuries.
The driver of the Freightliner was not hurt.
The coroner identified the deceased as Jeff Virgil Whitlock Jr., 76, of Chubby Smith Road Toccoa Georgia and Jarrett James Whitlock, 18, of the same address. The coroner said the victims were grandfather and grandson.
Coroner Rusty Clevenger asked people to pray for the family members of the victims during their time of loss.
All lanes were initially blocked due to the crash. One lane of traffic was moving again as of 5:15 a.m. All lanes reopened just before 9 a.m.
The SCHP MAIT team was called in to investigate the crash.
