ALPENA TWP, MI : A traffic crash on US-23 near Cranberry Creek in Alpena Township on Wednesday, August 30, 2017
A traffic crash on US-23 near Cranberry Creek in Alpena Township shut down travel on the highway for nearly an hour Wednesday, according to officials with the Alpena Township Fire Department.
Lt. Mike Kindt said the traffic crash occurred just before 7:45 a.m. when a 17-year-old man crashed his vehicle into a electrical pole.
Kindt said there were no injuries and he is unsure exactly how the crash occurred. He said the man was following behind a vehicle just before the crash.
“He may have been trying to avoid a crash,” Kindt said. “He went off the roadway and hit a power pole, sheered it off and the power lines went down on the roadway.”
Kindt said it took a crew from Alpena Power Company about 45 minutes to clear the electrical line from the highway before traffic resumed.
Also assisting at the scene was the Alpena County EMS, the Michigan State Police and the Alpena County Sheriff Department.
