Turkey Creek, KY : Two injuried in a single vehicle accident in the Long Branch community of Turkey Creek on Sunday evening, December 18, 2016
A single vehicle accident in the Long Branch community of Turkey Creek on Sunday evening sent two people to the hospital one with serious injuries and the other with life threatening injuries.
Eric Owens of Meathouse, Ky and Keith Walters of Hatfield, Ky, ages are unavailable were traveling in a Nissan pickup on route 612, around the four mile marker, near the EQT substation, when the driver lost control of the vehicle, the vehicle overturned ejecting both occupants through the passenger side window.
Medical personnel on scene attempted to have a helicopter for the initial transport of one of the patients, however, due to the weather conditions a helicopter could not land.
Both men were transported to Tug Valley ARH in South Williamson, KY then later transferred to Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville, Ky. for treatment of their injuries.
One of the men suffered severe head trauma, both men sustained leg injuries.
According to Trooper Luke Goodwin with the Kentucky State Police (KSP), the accident is still under investigation and charges are likely pending. The initial investigation indicates drugs and or alcohol played a role in the crash and seat-belts were not in use by either of the occupants.
KSP was assisted at the scene by members of the Turkey Creek Volunteer Fire Department, the department responded to the scene with two trucks and six men. Appalachian First Response Ambulance Service transported to patients.
