Hanover, PA : Woman injured in Berwick Township crash on Saturday, July 16, 2016

A woman was injured and trapped in her car for about an hour on Saturday after a crash on Maple Grove Road in Berwick Township, according to Nick Shaffer, the United Hook and Ladder assistant fire chief.

The woman had "serious injuries," Shaffer said. She was airlifted by a LifeLine helicopter.

The single-vehicle crash occurred between Beaver Creek and Country Club roads. United Hook and Ladder responded to the scene around 1 p.m., Shaffer said.

The rescue lasted for an hour because of the way she was positioned, with a tree up against the driver-side door of the red SUV, Shaffer said.

After the rescue, the car could be seen in the middle of a ditch in a wooded area surrounded by debris, with its roof cut off.

United Hook and Ladder was assisted by Hanover Borough and East Berlin fire units, as well as Adams Regional Emergency Medical Services, Shaffer said. As the effort wrapped up, he thanked the crews for their hard work.

State police is investigating the incident.
