Bow, N.H : Man in Critical Condition After Being Hit on Route 3A on Monday morning, January 5, 2015
Police have named Brian Szarka as the pedestrian who was struck early Monday morning by a vehicle at the intersection of Grandview Road and Route 3A, according to a news release.
According to the release from Bow police Sgt. Art Merrigan, preliminary investigations show that Szarka, 45, who has no permanent address, was walking in the southbound travel lane of Route 3A wearing dark clothing when around 5:40 a.m. a snowplow driver swerved to avoid Szarka.
A light-colored minivan followed the snowplow that left the scene, according to the release. It is unknown if the minivan was involved in the accident.
Despite the action of the driver of a tractor-trailer following the minivan, Szarka was struck in the foot by one wheel of the tractor-trailer. Szarka was transported to Concord Hospital by the Bow fire department.
As of late Tuesday afternoon, Szarka remains in critical condition, according to the release. No charges have been brought against either of the commercial vehicle operators at this time, and none are planned, according to police.
The investigation has not revealed if Szarka was struck by the plow, which is owned by R&R Enterprise of Hooksett.
St. Onge Transport Inc. of Newport, Vt. owns the tractor-trailer.
Investigators are continuing to seek the minivan and its operator.
