Deer Park, NY : Woman Arrested in Fatal Hit-and-Run crash on Long Island on Saturday evening, February 7, 2015

Suffolk County police say a 57-year-old woman has been arrested the fatal hit-and-run death of a pedestrian on New York's Long Island.

Irene Caldarero was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. Police say she struck a woman crossing Deer Park Avenue at about 8:30 p.m. on Saturday evening. She stopped briefly, but drove off before police arrived, authorities said. The victim has not been identified.

Witnesses gave a description of the vehicle. Authorities say they arrested the woman after they spotted her car. Caldarero was awaiting arraignment and wasn't clear if she had an attorney.
