Portland, OR : A crash on Interstate-5 on Sunday, November, 26th 2017

A Portland police officer had to be hospitalized in a crash on Interstate-5 on Sunday night.

The officer was in a patrol vehicle with another officer in a southbound lane, emergency lights flashing, when another vehicle plowed into them, police said.

One officer was transported to a hospital. The other was aided at the scene, police said. The two were there to help in the aftermath of a fatal crash on I-5 north.

Earlier, a Ford Mustang and Chevrolet pickup truck, with two in each, crashed, killing one person in the Mustang. The other person was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. A person in the pickup was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Chevrolet driver did not need medical care.

Police believe that speed was a factor in the crash.

Vehicles were diverted off the freeway. Drivers were advised to take I-84 to I-205 to travel to Washington state.

Police asked anyone who saw the crash to call them at 503-823-2103.
