St. Paul, MN : Two grandfathers die in wrong-way driver crash near the Minnesota State Fairgrounds on Tuesday, May 24, 2016
A 57-year-old St. Paul man driving home from an overnight shift Tuesday was struck head-on by another vehicle, killing him and the 55-year-old wrong-way driver, according to police. Both men leave behind children and grandchildren, their families said.
The crash occurred just before 3 a.m. on Snelling Avenue near the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in St Paul.. A witness reported a vehicle came up quickly behind him on northbound Snelling Avenue, then tried to pass him and switched lanes onto southbound Snelling, said Sgt. Mike Ernster, a St. Paul police spokesman. The vehicle struck a minivan heading south.
Police identified the wrong-way driver as David Patrick Hall of St. Paul and the driver of the minivan as Por Vang. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
Por Vang was married and had seven children and four grandchildren, said Ka Vang, a daughter. He was coming home from a job he had through a temp agency.
Hall lived about half a mile from the scene of the crash with his 20-year-old daughter, Nicole Hall. She said she didn’t know how the crash happened or where her father was heading Tuesday, but thought it might have been to his girlfriend’s house. David Hall also had a 34-year-old daughter and a grandson.
