Fort Collins, CO : One killed in crash on I-25 near Mulberry on Wednesday, February 15, 2017
One person was killed in a car crash at Mulberry Street and the Interstate 25 east frontage road Wednesday.
Fort Collins Police Services first received reports of the crash about 3:30 p.m. The crash occurred as the driver of a Honda sedan, who was heading west on Mulberry, tried to turn left onto the frontage road, according to Fort Collins police spokeswoman Kate Kimble. A GMC Sierra pickup truck, driven by 32-year-old Zachary Marshall of Ault and heading east on Mulberry, collided with the sedan.
Medical emergency crews performed CPR on the driver of the sedan before taking her to Medical Center of the Rockies in an ambulance, where she later died. Marshall was treated for minor injuries on the scene and released. Kimble said investigators were working to determine fault in the accident.
"It happened in less than a second," Steven Brooks, who witnessed the crash, said. "It was so quick."
Brooks said there was a lot of broken glass in his car because it flew in through his open window when the cars collided. He said onlookers attempted to help the driver of the sedan before emergency crews got there to perform CPR.
Police gathered witness statements at the scene for about an hour. More than ten emergency vehicles responded to the crash. The crash closed eastbound Mulberry and both directions of the frontage road around the intersection for about four hours while the Fort Collins Police CRASH Team investigated, according to FCPS. Police do not believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
