Artois, CA : Corning woman dies in wrong-way crash on I-5 in Glenn County on Friday morning, November 18, 2016
A wrong-way driving crash on Interstate 5 Friday morning in Glenn County resulted in the death of a Corning woman, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened about 4 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-5, south of County Road 39 near Artois.
The driver of a 2010 Ford Edge, identified as Ronald Carlin, 76, of Red Bluff, was traveling the wrong way in the fast lane of southbound I-5 when he collided head on with a 2010 Dodge Charger driven by Monica Skidmore, 37, of Corning.
Following that crash, a southbound big rig driven by Thomas Vuoso Jr., 60, of Carson, was unable to stop in time and crashed into Skidmore’s car.
Skidmore was killed in the wreck.
Carlin suffered major injuries and was taken Enloe Medical Center in Chico.
Vuoso complained of pain to his right shoulder and also was taken to Enloe.
CHP Officer Jeff Cobb said it was not immediately known why Carlin was traveling the wrong way on the freeway. Whether alcohol or drugs may have been factors in the crash also was not immediately known.
Cobb said the crash remained under investigation.
No arrests were reported.
The southbound lanes of the freeway were fully opened about 8 a.m. Friday.
