Carterville, IL: Marion man identified as deceased in Williamson County crash on Wednesday, July 22nd 2015
A 31-year-old Marion man, David L. Lyerla, is dead, a 3-month old and 20-year-old face life-threatening injuries and two others were hospitalized after a traffic accident around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Illinois 13 and Samuel Road.Police said the 20-year-old male driver of a Chevy Impala, who had three passengers in the car, crossed Illinois 13 westbound and pulled into the path of an eastbound Chevy Tahoe driven by Keri Clark, 41, of Carterville.Police said Clark suffered major injuries and was taken to an area hospital by ambulance, and the other driver, Jeremy McGee, 20, of Marion, was taken by ambulance to an area hospital and then airlifted to a regional hospital.A preliminary investigation by the Illinois State Police indicated the Impala crossed Illinois 13 westbound and pulled into the path of the eastbound Tahoe. Both vehicles were seriously damaged and towed from the scene. The accident closed Illinois 13 eastbound for four hours on Wednesday afternoon.McGee was cited for failure to yield right-of-way at an intersection with the possibility of additional charges, pending investigation, police said in a news release.There were three passengers in the Impala. Lyerla was pronounced dead on the scene by the Williamson County coroner. A 3-month-old male suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to an area hospital and then airlifted to a regional hospital. Tommi L. Burnett-Minor, 20, of Marion, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to an area hospital.
