One person is dead after a Wednesday morning multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 280 near the Quad-City International Airport exit in Moline.

Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson identified the victim as Troy R. Puffinbarger, 46, of Dixon, Iowa.

The incident tied up traffic around the airport for nearly four hours.

The accident occurred at 7:36 a.m. near I-280 mile marker 17 when a westbound white 2005 Ford “box truck” crossed the median and struck a white 2004 Dodge pickup truck head on, according to the Illinois State Police.

Three people from the box truck and one person from the pickup were transported to a Quad-City hospital with serious injuries.

Mr. Puffinbarger was in the pickup truck, authorities said.

The accident closed the eastbound lanes of Interstate 280 between the Milan and Moline exits near the airport until about 11:15 a.m., authorities said.

An autopsy was scheduled tentatively for today, Mr. Gustafson said.
