A Man died after rollover crash Near Vancouver Washington

A man died after a rollover crash along State Route 14 early Thursday, despite a stranger's efforts to save him.A pickup truck headed eastbound at about 5 a.m. crashed through a guardrail just east of Lieser Road and rolled down an embankment, according to Washington State Patrol Trooper Will Finn.

A Good Samaritan who saw the wreck stopped, tried to help and then sat with the victim before he passed away. "He was breathing but unconscious. I tried to comfort him. I don't know if he heard me or not, but I just wanted him to know that somebody was there to try to help out," Mark Hutton said.

The driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later identified as Darin Thorp, 42, of Vancouver.

"After speaking with troopers investigating the collision, alcohol is a possible contributor and the driver is was not wearing a seat belt," Finn said. "Witnesses to the collision stated the vehicle drifted off the road. So fatigue may also be a factor."During the rollover, a wheel flew off of the pickup and another vehicle struck it, Finn said. There were no reports of injuries to the occupants of that vehicle.

The roadway was blocked for more than three hours while police investigated.
