PORTSMOUTH, NH : Police called for driverless van crash on Tuesday, October 3, 2017

A driver was injured Tuesday after exiting a van she mistakenly put in reverse instead of park, said police Capt. Frank Warchol.

The incident occurred at Congress and Pleasant streets where, Warchol said, the woman was knocked to the ground by a van door while the van continued to move in reverse. He said the driver was attempting to stop the van with her hand on the brake when she was injured.

Police said the van continued to roll and came to a stop after hitting another parked car. The driver was transported by firefighters to the hospital with minor injuries.

On Tuesday, police Sgt. Kuffer Kaltenborn said no criminal charges are pending, adding “We’re going to draft it as a routine collision and let insurance companies sort it out.”
