Golden Gate, FL : CCSO vehicle involved in Golden Gate crash on Thursday, 11th July 2019
A deputy-in-training was behind the wheel of a Collier County patrol vehicle involved in a crash Thursday night, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
The vehicle was moving with its emergency lights activated, FHP stated.
Cindy Aponte, 24, of Naples, was driving the Sheriff’s Office vehicle east on Green Boulevard in Golden Gate Estates and was approaching Hemingway Lane about 9:20 p.m. when she activated the vehicle’s emergency lights to respond to an emergency call for service.
Cpl. David Russell was supervising Aponte, a deputy trainee in the sheriff's office's field training program, at the time of the crash, said Sheriff's Office Spokesperson Michelle Batten.
The sheriff’s office vehicle left the eastbound travel lane of Green Boulevard and entered the right turn lane for Hemingway Lane before making a U-turn into the path of a 1999 Lincoln Town Car, according to FHP.
