Monroeville driver remains in critical condition

A Monroeville woman remains hospitalized in Toledo after being injured in a head-on crash this week in Erie County's Groton Township.
Abbey L. Bemis, 23, of 135 N. Ridge St., is in critical condition in the intensive care unit at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said Wednesday afternoon. A LifeFlight helicopter flew Bemis to the Toledo trauma center after the two-vehicle crash at 10:20 a.m. Monday on Ohio 99 south of Harris Road and the Ohio Turnpike.

Troopers with the Milan post of the state Highway Patrol are investigating the crash. No citations had been issued as of press time.
"We haven't talked to her yet," said Sgt. Ron Anderson, referring to Bemis. "We will talk to her once she's able to (be interviewed)."
As of Tuesday, Anderson said Mercy St. Vincent officials cited federal privacy laws to troopers and only reported Bemis was still in the hospital.
"She is still there. We don't have anything more specific on how she's doing," the assistant post commander said.

Before the crash, Bemis was northbound on Ohio 99 driving a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix. Troopers said she went left of center and collided head-on with the southbound 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe being driven by Vincent Langevin, 77, of Rossford.
The collision sent Bemis' vehicle off the east side of the road, while Langevin's vehicle went off the west side and overturned once before coming to a final rest back on its wheels,
Bemis, who was wearing her seatbelt, had to be extricated from her vehicle. She first was transported to the Firelands Regional Medical Center emergency room in Sandusky.
Langevin, who also wore a safety belt, was transported to Firelands with minor injuries
