Charlotte, N.C : Woman killed in collision with Charlotte light-rail train on Thursday, March 16, 2017
Charlotte, North Carolina
Police in Charlotte say a woman was killed after the car she was driving collided with a light-rail train.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said in a statement that 26-year-old Ashley Yvonne Riveron was driving her 2001 Ford Explorer Thursday when she failed to stop for the crossing arms and signal at the Lynx Blue Line station.
A statement from police said Riveron's vehicle hit the crossing arms and drove into the path of the train.
Police said Riveron died at the scene. None of the 38 passengers on the train was injured. The statement said speed was not a factor in the crash, but it wasn't immediately known if Riveron was impaired.
