Upper Deerfield, NJ : Driver faces charges after crash involving trooper on Friday, January 2, 2015

Authorities say a southern New Jersey man was driving drunk on a suspended license when his sport utility vehicle collided with a state police cruiser.

Nineteen-year-old Andres Esteban, of Bridgeton, faces numerous charges stemming from the crash on Route 77 in Upper Deerfield Township. His bail was set at $50,000 and it wasn't known Sunday if he has retained an attorney.

Authorities say Esteban was southbound Friday night when his SUV struck a cruiser driven by trooper Michael Scott. Esteban allegedly tried to run away, but was soon captured.

Scott was treated at a hospital for undisclosed injuries and later released.

Esteban is charged with assault, leaving the scene of an accident and causing a death or serious injury while driving with a suspended license.
