Cross Plains, TN : Motorcyclist was killed after being hit head-on by a car at Highway 76 On Thursday, June 30th, 2016

A motorcyclist was killed after being hit head-on by a car on Highway 76 in Cross Plains Thursday.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist did nothing wrong and could do nothing to avoid hitting the car when it crossed the double line and hit him.

"It's in a slight curve; it's not a blind curve, and the car simply came across the center the line and struck him head-on. He couldn't have tried to bail off the bike; there just really wasn't an opportunity," said Lt. Bill Miller with

THP.

Witnesses said Wallace Young, 40, struggled to breathe and died before help could arrive. His motorcycle was pinned under the car that hit him.

"Soon as I hit my brakes, I noticed something that something flew off the side of the road,” said John Cole, a witness. “I see a guy lying in the street. The guy is climbing out of the car, he's climbing out of the window, and he's

asking me to use my phone, and I was like, what about this guy in the street? I start walking toward the guy in the street, and I see a motorcycle helmet. He is basically crying and saying that he is sorry and stuff like that, but it's

bad, it's bad to see."

The driver involved in the wreck, 24-year-old Richard Kessinger, has been charged with vehicular homicide.

According to the THP report, Kessinger underwent testing for drugs and alcohol. He was allegedly under the influence of drugs.
