One Killed In Single-Car Crash On I-24 In Montgomery County

One person was killed Sunday in a single-car crash in Montgomery County.

Officials with the Tennessee Department of Transportation said the incident was reported just before 4 p.m. Sunday at mile marker 13, southeast of Clarksville.

Troopers with the Tennessee Highway Patrol said 48-year-old Bobby Patton, of Marion, Kentucky, was a passenger in a vehicle that was attempting to merge lanes. In an effort to avoid hitting another car, officials said 49-year-old Elizabeth Patton veered off the roadway and the vehicle overturned several times before coming to rest on the side of the interstate.

The cars never struck each other.

Elizabeth Patton was injured and taken to the hospital for treatment. No one was hurt in the other car.

TDOT said one lane of westbound I-24 was closed for several hours while officials work to clear the scene. Eastbound traffic also experienced delays.

The roadway was reopened around 7 p.m.
