Salinas,CA : One person killed in Two-vehicle Crash attempted to make a U-turn on Highway 101 on Sunday August 2nd 2015.

A Salinas man died Monday morning in a two-vehicle collision after he attempted to make a U-turn on Highway 101 at Hartnell Street in Salinas, officials have confirmed.

Julio Alejandro Aguilar, 46, died on impact.

A Seaside woman, and her two passengers, riding on the other vehicle were transported to Natividad Medical Center for treatment. Their injuries are not yet known.

The crash stemmed from a legal U-turn on the highway. It was reported at 7:22 a.m. Aguilar was driving southbound on the highway when he came to a stop in an attempt to make the turn to head north.

When he began to make the move, he merged back onto the highway and was hit by the Seaside woman who was driving a 2006 Ford Explorer. She was traveling at 65 miles per hour when she hit the driver’s side of the man’s vehicle, head-on.

The crash was initially reported as a three-vehicle collision, but upon arrival, authorities saw one of the vehicle only witnessed the collision.

Debris was scattered throughout the highway and the vehicles were moved to the center divide, allowing traffic to flow along highway lanes near the crash. No lanes were closed or blocked, according to the CHP website.
