Jonesboro, AR : Woman arrested for DWI after crash on Highland Drive Circle on Tuesday morning, February 2, 2016

Police arrested a Jonesboro woman for driving while intoxicated after she drove into a yard and crashed into two parked vehicles Tuesday morning.

According to a crash report from the Jonesboro Police Department, 58-year-old Edna Speakman was driving east on Highland Drive Circle when she tried to turn right onto Dara Drive around 8:27 a.m.

She did not fully make the turn and instead, drove through the front yard at 1900 Dara Dr.

Speakman crashed into a GMC Sierra pickup that was parked in the driveway, pushing it into a Chevrolet truck parked beside it.

When officers arrived on scene, Speakman was lying in the grass beside the driver’s side of her car.

According to the police report, she was “grumbling and mumbling in an effort to speak.” Police also noted that she had very bloodshot, watery eyes.

Officers were able to speak to her boyfriend, who owned the crashed vehicle. He told police that Speakman and him had gotten into a fight that morning.

He said that he woke up around 4 a.m. to find her listening to music and drinking whiskey. She told him she had also taken some Valium.

They continued to fight and Speakman pushed the man and grabbed him underneath his arms, according to the police report.

They also had an altercation as the man tried to stop Speakman from leaving in his car.

While in the ambulance, Speakman admitted to officers that she had drank whiskey and taken Valium before driving.

She was taken to St. Bernards to be treated for her injuries.

She was cited on misdemeanors for DWI, careless and prohibited driving and assault on a family or household member. She was left in the care of St. Bernards.
