Three people were taken to the hospital after a Hartland Trailways charter bus crashed on I-70 in Morgan County Monday morning.
The front right steer tire blew out around the 53 milemarker in the westbound lanes. The bus went off the right side of the roadway, down an embankment, striking a tree with the right front of the bus, and came to rest in a cornfield.
The bus was carrying 54 guests of the Catholic Diocese of Kansas City back to Missouri after being in Philadelphia for the Pope's visit. Three were taken to the hospital after complaining of pain. The rest were taken by school bus to a truck stop two miles down the interstate at Little Point.
Westbound traffic was temporarily taken down to one lane while the crash was investigated, a bus inspection was performed and the wreckage was removed.
