LOGANSPORT, IN : Kokomo teen dies in crash in Logansport on April, Saturday 1st 2017
A Kokomo teenager was killed and a Logansport man was injured in a single-vehicle crash on Logansport’s west side early Saturday morning, according to a press release from the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Department and Logansport Police Department responded to the crash on West Market Street near Wheatland Avenue in Logansport at about 3:22 a.m., the release states.
Cass County Sheriff’s Sgt. Pat Zeider said in the release that Megan Stines, 17, Kokomo, was driving westbound on West Market Street in a black 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee at a high rate of speed. The vehicle struck two utility poles near West Market Street’s intersection with Wheatland Avenue, Zeider continued in the press release, adding Stines was ejected from the vehicle.
Stines was transported to Logansport Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by Cass County Deputy Coroner Jacob Fisher, according to the release.
Zeider said in the release that a passenger in the vehicle, Devin Minneman, 19, Logansport, was transported to Logansport Memorial Hospital and treated for his injuries before being transferred to another hospital.
Zeider said in an interview later on Saturday that Stines is believed to have struck two parked vehicles at Los Gallos, 800 W. Market Street, before the crash farther down the road. He added Stines is also believed to have struck a streetlight across West Market Street from Los Gallos, just west of Wilkinson Street.
The crash occurred when Stines struck a post for an overhead sign off the eastbound lane of the road and then struck a streetlight not far from the signpost, Zeider said.
The vehicle then crossed West Market Street’s intersection with Wheatland Avenue before stopping, he added.
Both streetlights involved in the crash were knocked over while the overhead sign remained standing.
The crash investigation is ongoing, Zeider said in the release.
The release states Zeider was assisted by Cass County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Preston, the Logansport Police Department, Indiana State Police, Prompt Ambulance Central, Logansport Fire Department, Logansport Street Department and Logansport Municipal Utilities.
