Two people have been killed after a four-vehicle crash just south of Nashville.
Local news agencies report that the wreck happened Tuesday morning on Murfreesboro Pike.
Metro police say a 16-year-old driver, who was speeding, was with a passenger when a SUV pulled into traffic. The teen clipped the SUV, swerved into oncoming traffic and hit two other vehicles head-on.
The driver of one of those vehicles, 44-year-old Miguel Lopez, died at the scene. His wife, 44-year-old Ana Nieto, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Following the collision, police say the teen’s vehicle skidded uphill before bursting into flames. Witnesses were able to pull the driver from the burning car but not the passenger, who officials say was burned beyond recognition.
The teen is facing vehicular homicide charges.
