CRANSTON, RI : Fatal two-car collision in Cranston on Saturday, 14th November, 2020
The Cranston Police Department is investigating a crash that killed one person and sent four others to the hospital on Saturday night.
Police say at 8:19 p.m. officers were called to Scituate Avenue near the intersection of Council Rock Road in Cranston for a car accident.
The two cars involved were a 1991 Nissan 300Z with two men inside, and a 2020 Ford Edge with three men in the car.The driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene, and later identified as 35-year-old Julian Alba of Cranston.
The passenger in Alba’s car was a 40-year-old New Jersey man who was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where police say he is in critical condition.
In the Ford were three men from West Warwick, Warwick, and Johnston. They were transported to Rhode Island Hospital and since have been released, after being treated for broken bones.
Police say both cars involved sustained heavy front-end damage.
Police say a preliminary investigation shows that the Nissan 300Z was traveling east at a high rate of speed on Scituate Avenue. When the driver came to a curve in the road near Sweet Pea Drive, he crossed the double yellow lines and began heading east in the westbound lane.
