JONESBORO, AR : Two officers injured in crash on April, Wednesday 26th 2017

A Jonesboro police officer responding to an armed robbery collided Wednesday night with an off-duty colleague.

The crash happened at the intersection of Oak Avenue and Main Street at approximately 8:48 p.m.

Officer Christopher Jefferson was traveling eastbound on Oak, responding to a robbery in progress at the Walgreen's store at the corner of Highland Drive and Main Street.

Dashcam video, according to the accident report, showed the right (southbound) lane had a green turn light. However, the light was red for the left turn (north) and straight eastbound traffic.

When Jefferson entered the intersection, his patrol car was hit by a pickup truck driven by Lt. Steve McDaniel who was off-duty.

After hearing the suspect had already left the scene, Jefferson said he decided to drive on to Church Street in an attempt to locate the suspect.

Jefferson said he saw the green southbound turn signal and thought it was green for him to travel east through the intersection, the accident report said.

Jefferson suffered a slight injury to his head. McDaniel, according to the report, complained of an injury to his right hand and right side of his face. Both were checked out by EMTs.

According to the accident report, Jefferson disregarded the traffic signal and was at fault.
