York, PA : SUV crashes into Super Shoes in West Manchester on Friday, December, 8th 2017
No one was hurt when an SUV crashed through the front windows of the West Manchester Township Super Shoes and lurched into the store, a fire official said.
West Manchester Township firefighters were called to the 2043 W. Market St. shoe store at 9:53 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8, according to township Fire Chief Clif Laughman.
An 86-year-old New Salem woman was driving the Honda SUV, he said.
"She was trying to park and instead of hitting the brakes, she hit the accelerator," Laughman said. "The vehicle went through the front of the building and three-quarters of the way into it."
The front counter and cash registers at Super Shoes are at the front of the store, and there was significant damage to that whole area, the fire chief said.
Thankfully, he said, store employees weren't standing behind the counter — they were out in the store doing restocking, according to Laughman.
"They were very lucky," he told The York Dispatch. "There could have been significant injuries."
