Hibbing, MN : One person killed in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 169 in Saint Louis County on Tuesday, January 5, 2016

One person was killed during a two-vehicle crash at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the intersection of Highway 169 and Highway 73.

A 2007 GMC Sierra driven by George E. Nelson, 82, of Hibbing, was traveling westbound on Highway 169 when it turned left onto Highway 73 and was broadsided by a 2006 International Semi driven by Nathan D. Jaus, 32, of Chisholm, according to a Minnesota State Patrol release.
Nelson was pronounced dead on the scene. He wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. No airbag deployed in the pickup truck.

Jaus was not injured. He was wearing a seatbelt. An airbag didn’t deployed in the semi.
The pickup truck was totaled. The semi was severely damaged. Both vehicles were towed.
No alcohol was detected, according to the release. The road was dry at the time of the crash.
The Hibbing police and fire departments assisted at the scene.
