West Nyack, NY : Local musician and artist died after his bicycle struck by a bus in West Nyack on Sunday afternoon, Aug 16, 2015

Police say a local musician and artist died after he was struck by a bus while riding his bicycle in suburban New York City.

The Journal News reports 77-year-old Edward Brophy collided with a Tappan ZEExpress bus as it turned left onto Route 303 from North Palisades Center Drive in West Nyack.

The accident occurred at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Brophy was transported to Nyack Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The bus had no passengers at the time of the crash. Police say the driver was unharmed.

The Congers resident was described as an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Rockland who enjoyed playing the banjo and harmonica.

Church officials say Brophy was a New York City police officer for 20 years, working in Spanish Harlem.
