Worland, WY : Minor injuries in semi vs. dump truck crash on N. Highway 20 Monday afternoon, August 29, 2016

Sixty to 70 gallons of diesel fuel spilled on N. Highway 20 Monday afternoon after a two-vehicle collision.

The collision between a Wyoming Department of Transportation truck and Teton Petroleum Transport, LLC semi-truck happened around 12:40 p.m. between mile marker 173 and 174 north of Worland after the semi-truck with two empty tanker trailers was traveling southbound and slowing at the right hand turn into Devon Energy, Wyoming Highway Patrolman Lt. Karl Germain said.

Germain said the driver of WYDOT dump truck following behind the semi-truck vehicle failed to see the semi-truck turning.

“It struck the second trailer and the right set of duel tires and the brunt of the impact was sustained between the dump truck and the first trailer which caused the first trailer on the semi-truck to turn one-quarter times on its left side,” Germain said.

The driver of the WYDOT truck, Matthew Jones of Ten Sleep, needed to be extricated since he was pinned in. Germain said he had minor injuries and was transported to Washakie Medical Center. The driver of the semi-truck, Kevin Monnin of Cody “was able to remain on scene and … did not have a scratch on him,” Germain said.

The diesel fuel spilled from the WYDOT dump truck will have to be cleaned up by WYDOT. He said late Monday afternoon that WYDOT crews were on scene trying to clean up the WYDOT vehicle first, Germain said.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
