Concord, CA : 59 year-old man was died after he was struck by a car while trying to cross one of the city's busiest streets on Thursday morning October 2nd 2014
A Concord man trying to cross one of the city's busiest streets died after he was struck by a car Thursday morning, police said.
Police were called to the scene at 6:37 a.m. after the man was found in the far left lane of southbound Clayton Road, at the intersection of Bailey Road, Concord police Provisional Sgt. Ken Carlson said.
He has been identified as Jerry Saucer, 59, of Concord.
A 2007 Chevy Colorado pickup truck driven by a 49-year-old Benicia resident was heading east when it hit the man.
Police were still determining whether the man was in the crosswalk when the collision happened. An ambulance took the man to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, but doctors were unable to save him.
"We're also trying to find out if he was crossing against the traffic signal," Carlson said. "The driver stayed at the scene and has been cooperating fully."
Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision, Carlson said. Police closed two of three lanes on Clayton Road in the eastbound direction for more than an hour.
