Ross Township, OH : One dead, one injured after head-on crash on Ross Millville Road on early Wednesday morning, August 27, 2014
One person is dead after a head-on crash early Wednesday on a road colloquially referred to as the "highway to heaven."
The crash, which happened in front of Bruce's Nursery, was first reported at about 6 a.m. in the 2400 block of Ross Millville Road (US 27) near New London Road.
Investigators said a 1999 Chrysler Concord went left of center and struck a 2011 Ford F-150.
The Butler County Sheriff’s Office said the entire road was shut down for hours while crews clear the scene and investigate the crash. It reopened at about 9:15 a.m.
Deputies said the crash involved a car and a truck. The driver of the car was killed and the driver of the truck was taken to Fort Hamilton Hospital for chest pains.
The names of the victims are being withheld pending family notification.
Later Wednesday evening, investigators were still collecting information about the crash.
A history of fatal traffic accidents have given the road a bad reputation, Butler County engineers said, so extensive work was done from 1990-2010 to make US 27 safer.
Crews straightened sharp curves, installed shoulders and lowered the speed to 45 miles per hour.
The road is only two lanes wide, and engineers said too many drivers travel too fast for the narrow path. They encourage extreme caution during commutes on US 27.
