An off-duty Yonkers police detective was killed when his SUV collided with a fire truck.

Authorities say 45-year-old Frank Fernandez was pronounced dead at the scene in Yonkers at about 3 a.m. Sunday.

Four firefighters suffered minor injuries in the accident on Palmer Road near Sunnybrook Road.

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano described the 15-year veteran with the Yonkers Police Department as a "dedicated officer, husband and father."

The Westchester County district attorney's office is investigating the cause of the accident.
