North Hampton,NH : One dead after North Hampton I-95 crash on January, Tuesday 9th 2018

Police have identified all four victims of Tuesday’s crash on Interstate 95, including the 54-year-old passenger who died after being ejected through the vehicle’s windshield.

Yong Zheng, 54, of Boston, died late Tuesday night at Portsmouth Regional Hospital after being ejected through the front windshield of a Chevrolet Express Van that crashed into an attenuator barrier on I-95 southbound near the Hampton tolls, New Hampshire State Police said Wednesday. He was a passenger in the back of the vehicle, police said.

The driver, Ming Chen, 51, front seat passenger, Mingjian Chen, 53, and other rear passenger, Zhangfang Wang, 42, all of Boston, were transported to local hospitals with serious injuries.

Mingjian Chen was brought to Exeter Hospital with serious injuries, then transported to a Boston area hospital in stable condition, police said. Ming Chen was transported to Exeter Hospital but has since been released, according to the hospital’s spokeswoman, Debra Vasapolli. Wang was brought to Portsmouth Hospital and remains there in stable condition.

State police said late Tuesday night the crash was still under investigation, but they believe Ming Chen was attempting to move into a cash lane from the highway’s open road tolling lane at the I-95 toll plaza and lost control of the vehicle.

Impairment is not believed to be a factor, according to police. Police said it appears none of the van’s four occupants were wearing seatbelts.

The two lanes that lead into the cash lanes at the Hampton Toll Plaza were closed for approximately three hours and traffic was diverted into the high-speed tolling lanes. State police were assisted on scene by the Hampton and North Hampton fire departments, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation. The state police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit investigated.

Exeter fire ambulances also assisted at the scene, while fire departments from Rye, Seabrook and Hampton Falls assisted Hampton fire with mutual aid station coverage, according to Hampton Fire Chief Jameson Ayotte.
