Wilkes Barre, PA : Shickshinny man killed in hit-and-run crash in Hanover Township on Friday morning, March 31, 2017

A Shickshinny man trying to cross the Sans Souci Parkway was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash Friday morning.

Hanover Township police said Oliver Grosspietsch, 66, was crossing the road around 6:20 a.m. in the 700 block of the parkway near Parkway Plaza and McDonald’s when he was hit by a white Hyundai that fled the scene heading south along the parkway. Police Chief Albert Walker could not yet name the model of the vehicle.

“There should be some front end damage on the passenger side,” Walker said.

He said police found the car’s passenger side mirror at the scene.

Police said a second vehicle struck Grosspietsch and also fled the scene heading south on the parkway.

The Luzerne County coroner responded to the scene along with Hanover Township police and fire departments, state police, and PennDOT. Grosspietsch was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Walker said the police investigation led to traffic disruptions on the Sans Souci Parkway. Investigators closed all southbound lanes between King’s and Main roads and in the “area of the parkway by Parkway Plaza.”

The parkway reopened to all traffic around noon, according to a post on the Hanover Township Police Department’s Facebook page.
