A state trooper suffered minor injuries when his vehicle was struck by an apparently drunken driver while the trooper was parked near the scene of a car crash early Sunday on Interstate 12 near Baton Rouge, state police said.
The trooper was parked on the shoulder of I-12 while investigating a crash on eastbound Louisiana 3245, also called O'Neal Lane at 2:40 a.m., and had just placed the driver under arrest for driving while intoxicated, according to a press release from the LSP.
The trooper and the driver he had just arrested were seated inside the trooper's Chevrolet Tahoe when the SUV was struck from behind by a 2009 Toyota Highlander.
The trooper and the arrested driver suffered "minor to moderate injuries" in the collision, and were treated at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge.
The driver of the Toyota Highlander, 24-year-old Magen Alicia Hall, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Hall was arrested for driving while intoxicated and was booked into into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of careless operation and first-offense DWI.
A breath alcohol test showed Hall's blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit, state police said.
