A 16-month old and a man were killed Friday and three others injured in a three-car accident on Interstate 85 near Shorter that has caused a portion of the interstate to remain closed.
A 16-month-old of Hapeville, Georgia, and Roberto Linares, 55, of Montgomery, were killed as the 2001 Toyota Sienna they were riding in was struck by a 2011 Freightliner tractor trailer truck before striking a 2014 Ford Focus, according to Alabama State Troopers.
Three other passengers in the Toyota were transported to local hospitals.
The crash occurred at 6:30 p.m. on Interstate 85 between the 24-25 mile markers, approximately two miles north of Shorter, troopers said..
Another collision occurred shortly afterward, causing damage to a bridge support on Interstate 85 near the fatal crash scene.
Northbound lanes on I-85 between mile markers 22 and 26 will remain closed as repairs to the bridge are made. No timetable was given Saturday for repairs to be completed.
Alabama State Troopers are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
