Washington, UT : Woman killed, man injured in rollover crash near Washington County on Sunday afternoon, March 22, 2015
A woman died and a man was injured after their vehicle rolled off the roadway Sunday just outside the Washington County Landfill.
The woman, who was not immediately identified, was in her mid-40s, Washington City Police Officer Ed Kantor said. He did not know where the woman is from.
The male was still being evaluated for his injuries.
Kantor said an accident reconstruction team is still investigating the scene, where a blue Subaru passenger car appeared to have rolled off the roadway sometime before 4:40 p.m. near a turn on Landfill Road as it headed toward the landfill from Telegraph Road in Washington City.
“For some reason they failed to negotiate the turn and rolled, more than once,” Kantor said, noting that much of the information available late Sunday was preliminary.
He said investigators had not reported whether the occupants were wearing seat belts or if they were ejected.
A Life Flight helicopter was put on standby after crews arrived to attempt resuscitation on the woman, but their efforts were unsuccessful and the chopper was canceled, Kantor said.
He said he did not know which of the two occupants were driving or their reason for being on the isolated roadway, which serves primarily as an access to the nearby landfill but is not used by through traffic.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Utah Highway Patrol and Gold Cross Ambulance also responded to the scene.
