Awendaw,SC : Firefighter involved in early-morning crash in Awendaw on October, Friday 13th 2017

A Lowcountry firefighter is recovering following an early-morning accident in Awendaw, Friday.

The single-vehicle crash happened at 7:30 a.m. on October 13 on Steed Creek Road, near Halfway Creek Road.

Lauren Cook was reporting for duty this morning and was trapped in the vehicle, according to the Awendaw-McClellanville Fire District.

South Carolina Highway Patrol reports an animal walked across the road. Attempting to avoid hitting it caused her to run off left side of road and strike tree, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Corporal Matt Southern.

Medics transported her to the Medical University of South Carolina with serious non-life threatening injuries.
